Myomectomy is the surgical removal of fibroids/myomas. This means that during a myomectomy procedure, the uterus is preserved and reproductive ability is still feasible. The presence of fibroids does not automatically imply surgery, but when causing pain or pressure, abnormal bleeding, or causing interference with the reproductive ability, a myomectomy is performed.

Some myomas are dissected from the uterus by incisions. The incisions in the uterus are sutured and a morcellator is used to extract the fibroids from the abdominal cavity. Other myomas are connected to the uterus only by a stalk and can be sectioned by a cutting electrode. After the amputation, the myoma is extracted by a morcellator, such as the LiNA Xcise Morcellator provided by LiNA Medical.
